Andrew Frith

Biography

Andrew was born in Australia but has been living in Northern California for the last 14 years. He was introduced to photography at an early age as his father had been avid amateur photographer. He always had a camera in his youth and took many photos of the Australian countryside as he enjoyed the great outdoors.

In this 20’s he relocated to Tokyo, Japan, and started a career in digital media as an animator and paintbox operator for one of the Japanese TV networks (NHK). He found himself constantly on the computer, and so his photography fell by the wayside. He spent many years in the film and broadcast industry before he re-discovered his passion for the simplicity and beauty of large-format still photography.

For the last several years, he has devoted his creative energy to studying large-format photography. He uses an 8x10” field camera. He is interested in many of the processes of the past and has printed in platinum/palladium, albumen, cyanotype, kallitype, gum bichromate and Azo, a silver-chloride paper.
He has exhibited in several group shows and is currently taking trips to Great Britain as often as possible to photograph the megalithic stone circles of the English Southwest and the Scottish Isles.
